The Sun constantly blows a wind of particles that inflates a vast bubble around the whole solar system. The heliopause is the bubble's skin, where the solar wind finally stalls against the thin gas between the stars. Voyager 1 crossed it in 2012 and Voyager 2 in 2018, our first two machines to step outside and feel interstellar space directly.
