
One of the few constellations that genuinely resembles its namesake: a long curved body with a hooked stinger tail, glowing low in the northern summer sky and high over southern lands. Its red heart is the supergiant Antares. In myth, this is the scorpion that killed Orion, which is why the gods placed them on opposite sides of the sky: the Hunter sets as the Scorpion rises, forever fleeing.
