Sombrero Galaxy (M104)

Seen nearly edge on, this galaxy really does look like a wide brimmed Mexican hat: a glowing white core wrapped in a dark ring of dust. The Sombrero hides a supermassive black hole of about a billion solar masses, one of the heaviest in our neighborhood, and is escorted by a swarm of roughly 2,000 globular star clusters.
