COLOR among the reddest objects known

A centaur so deeply red that it puzzled astronomers for years. The color likely comes from ancient organic compounds, simple carbon chemistry cooked by billions of years of radiation into dark red tholins. Pholus has probably never been close to the Sun, so its surface is primordial: original solar system paint, never retouched.
