Soot and sand grains finer than smoke, forged in the outflows of dying stars and scattered between the suns. Dust is why the Milky Way has dark lanes, but it is also the universe's construction material: grains clump to pebbles, pebbles to rocks, rocks to planets. Earth is, quite literally, swept up stardust, and several tons more of it land here every day.
