COMET · the great comet of 1976
One of the most beautiful comets of the last century. In the spring of 1976, West unfolded a broad, golden, banded dust tail in the morning sky. The close pass by the Sun broke its nucleus into four pieces, which made it shine even brighter. Few people saw it, because after a different comet had disappointed the public, newspapers barely mentioned this one. The ones who looked up were richly rewarded.
