The twin of Viking 1, set down on the wide northern plain Utopia Planitia. It photographed something wonderfully familiar: frost. On winter mornings, a thin white layer of frozen water and carbon dioxide dusted the red rocks around the lander, a quiet reminder that Mars has weather and seasons too.
