No star in the night sky shines brighter. Sirius sparkles bluish white in the constellation of the Great Dog, and because its light passes through our wobbling air, it often seems to flicker in many colors. It has a tiny companion, Sirius B: a burned out star squeezed to the size of Earth, so dense that a teaspoon of it would weigh several tons.
