A black hole found not by its glow but by its silence. The Gaia space telescope noticed a sun like star tracing an orbit around an empty point, and the invisible partner turned out to be a black hole, the nearest dormant one known. It eats nothing, shines in nothing, and only its gravity gives it away. The galaxy may hold millions like it.
