
The biggest black hole collision detected so far: two giants of about 85 and 66 solar masses slammed together and left behind a black hole of roughly 142 Suns, the first clearly seen in the missing middle class between star sized and supermassive holes. One puzzle: stars are not supposed to make black holes as big as the larger of the two. Nature had other plans.
