SEEN 1996RECORD the longest tail ever measured

In March 1996 Hyakutake slipped unusually close past Earth and turned into a breathtaking sight, a glowing blue green head with a tail stretching halfway across the sky. A spacecraft later flew through that tail and found it was over half a billion kilometers long, the longest comet tail ever measured. It will not return for tens of thousands of years.
