A swarm of more than a thousand galaxies, and the scene of a famous early mystery. In 1933, Fritz Zwicky measured how fast its galaxies move and found they should fly apart unless something unseen held them together, hundreds of times more mass than the visible stars. He called it dark matter. The idea was decades ahead of its time, and it stuck.
