Cat's Eye Nebula (NGC 6543)

One of the most intricate objects in the sky, a dying star wrapped in layer after layer of glowing shells, knots and arcs, like an eye drawn by a jeweler. The star seems to have pulsed off a shell every 1,500 years or so, and astronomers still debate what choreographed such precision, possibly a hidden companion star.
