Five bright stars zigzag across the northern sky as an unmistakable W, or an M, depending on the hour, since Cassiopeia circles the pole and never sets. In myth she was a queen punished for her vanity by being hung in the sky, spinning forever around the celestial pole. Her W sits in the Milky Way, so binoculars find star fields everywhere around it.
