The bright eye of the Eagle and one of our closest bright neighbors. Altair is a cosmic speed skater: while our Sun takes about a month to rotate once, Altair whips around in under nine hours. That furious spin flattens it into an egg shape, which telescopes have actually photographed. It completes the Summer Triangle with Vega and Deneb.
