On Friday the 13th of April 2029, this asteroid will sweep past Earth closer than our television satellites, close enough to see with the naked eye from Europe and Africa. When Apophis was discovered, early numbers briefly suggested a possible impact, which earned it the name of an Egyptian demon. Today its path is precisely known: it will miss us, and scientists get a once in a millennium front row view.
