The largest confirmed impact structure on Earth: two billion years ago, an asteroid bigger than the Chicxulub dino killer slammed into what is now South Africa, leaving a ring of hills the size of a small country. Two billion years of erosion have worn it almost flat, but from orbit the great scar still shows. Earth heals, slowly, and never completely.
