One of the brightest gamma ray objects in the sky, a neutron star spinning eleven times a second inside the wreckage of an ancient supernova. Now and then Vela glitches: its spin suddenly jumps faster for a moment, probably when the superfluid interior slips against the crust, a starquake on a city sized sun.
