A smaller, fainter copy of the Big Dipper whose one job matters enormously: the last star of its handle is Polaris, the North Star, around which the whole northern sky turns. Sailors have read their latitude from its height for centuries. Finding the Little Dipper from a city is a decent test of how dark your sky really is.
