Ink black clumps of dust floating in front of a sea of glowing hydrogen, like torn scraps of paper on a red lantern. These globules are being blasted from all sides by the radiation of nearby newborn stars; they are evaporating as we watch, in a slow race between forming new stars inside and being boiled away outside.
