SPACE TELESCOPE · the heat seeker
A telescope that saw heat instead of light, which let it peer through dust clouds at baby stars, find dusty disks where planets form, and study planets around other suns. Spitzer helped discover that the TRAPPIST-1 system holds seven Earth sized worlds. It worked more than five times longer than planned before retiring in 2020.
