The brilliant blue white jewel of the constellation Virgo, whose name means ear of wheat. Spica is really two very hot stars orbiting each other so closely that their gravity stretches both into egg shapes; they complete a full orbit in just four days. Together they shine over ten thousand times brighter than the Sun.
