The largest space telescope ever built. Webb sees infrared light, which lets it peer through dust clouds and look back at the very first galaxies that formed after the big bang. Its golden mirror is made of 18 hexagons and rides behind a sunshield the size of a tennis court, which keeps the telescope colder than minus 230 °C. It had to unfold itself in space like origami, and every single step worked.
