The oldest light in existence. For its first 380,000 years the universe was a glowing fog; when it cooled enough to turn transparent, the light escaped, and it is still traveling, stretched by expansion into faint microwaves arriving from every direction. Its tiny temperature ripples are the seeds that grew into galaxies. Old televisions even picked up a whisper of it as static.
