No comet comes back more often: Encke laps the Sun every 3.3 years. After thousands of visits it has grown faint and tired, but it leaves a generous trail of dust behind. When Earth plows through that trail each year, we get the Taurid meteor showers, sometimes with spectacular fireballs. A quiet comet with a loud legacy.
