Two spiral galaxies caught in the act of crashing into each other. The collision flings out two long streamers of stars, the antennae, and squeezes gas clouds until they ignite in firestorms of starbirth: billions of new stars from a single cosmic accident. This is also a preview of our own future, when the Milky Way meets Andromeda.
