RED SUPERGIANT · the heart of the Scorpion
A glowing red ember in the heart of the constellation Scorpius. The name Antares means rival of Mars, because the two look confusingly similar when the red planet passes by. Antares is so swollen that placed in our solar system it would reach past the orbit of Mars. Like its cousin Betelgeuse, it is in the final chapters of its life.
