GALAXY CLUSTER · a lens made of gravity
A cluster of hundreds of galaxies whose combined gravity bends space so strongly that it works like a lens. Galaxies far behind it appear smeared into glowing arcs and streaks, including a famous one nicknamed the Dragon. Einstein predicted this bending of light; clusters like Abell 370 turn his equations into pictures, and give us magnified views of the early universe for free.
