STAR LIFE · the heavyweight path
Massive stars take the dramatic route: they swell into supergiants so vast they would swallow Jupiter's orbit, while their cores frantically fuse ever heavier elements, carbon, oxygen, silicon, racing through fuels in mere thousands of years. The assembly line stops at iron, which consumes energy instead of releasing it. At that moment the star's fate is sealed, and the clock runs out fast.
