The innermost major arm, so buried behind dust and star clouds that visible light barely reaches us from it; radio and infrared telescopes had to map it. Charting the arm structure of a galaxy we are trapped inside is like mapping a forest without leaving one clearing, and astronomers have managed it anyway.
