A magnetar, a neutron star with the most powerful magnetic field known in the universe. In 2004 its crust snapped, and in a tenth of a second it released more energy than the Sun gives off in a hundred thousand years. The blast measurably zapped Earth's upper atmosphere from 50,000 light years away. Respect the magnet.
