ASTEROID · the tilted giant
One of the three biggest asteroids, discovered back in 1802. Pallas travels on an unusually tilted orbit that carries it high above and below the main belt, which makes it hard for spacecraft to visit. Telescope images show a battered surface like a golf ball, scarred by a violent history of impacts.
