A lander that did not drive anywhere on purpose: InSight sat still and listened. Its ultra sensitive seismometer felt more than a thousand marsquakes, and from how their waves traveled through the planet, scientists mapped Mars' interior for the first time: crust, mantle and a surprisingly large liquid core. A stethoscope for a whole world.
