The Stardust spacecraft flew through the coma of this comet, caught its dust in a wonder material called aerogel, and parachuted the samples back to Earth in 2006. Inside, scientists found minerals that must have formed close to the young Sun, proof that the early solar system mixed its ingredients far more wildly than anyone expected.
