The Sun swells into a red giant in about five billion years, then fades as a white dwarf. The Milky Way and Andromeda merge. Far beyond, star formation slows until the last red dwarfs gutter out, trillions of years from now, leaving a universe of dim embers, drifting remnants and patient black holes. No ending though, just an unimaginably long, calm evening. The universe is still mostly morning; you live early.
