
The long, stable adulthood: hydrogen fuses to helium in the core, and the outward push of fusion balances the inward pull of gravity in a truce lasting eons. The heavier the star, the shorter the truce; giants burn out in millions of years while red dwarfs will outlast a thousand Suns. Our own star is about halfway through this chapter, comfortably middle aged.
