Tarantula Nebula (30 Doradus)

The most furious star forming region anywhere near us, so bright that if it sat where the Orion Nebula is, it would cast shadows at night. The Tarantula lives in a neighboring galaxy and breeds monsters: its central cluster holds the most massive stars known, including R136a1. Its glowing filaments inspired the spidery name.
