One half of a historic discovery: Mizar A was the first star revealed to be double purely through its light. Its spectrum lines split and merge rhythmically as two stars, Aa and Ab, whirl around each other in just 20 days, far too close for any telescope to separate. The spectrograph sees what the eye cannot.
