GLOBULAR CLUSTER · the southern jewel
The second brightest globular cluster in the sky, a dense blaze of ancient stars next to the Small Magellanic Cloud. Its core is so crowded that stars regularly swing close to one another, creating exotic pairs: spun up pulsars and strange blue stragglers, old stars that look young again after stellar collisions.
